Algebra 1B Grades: Students entering Grades 7-9 Course Description: Algebra 1B is a full year course designed to reinforce basic algebra skills while developing more advanced critical thinking skills. Problem-solving techniques are used extensively with concepts involving equations, exponents, polynomials, factoring, rational and irrational numbers and expressions, and graphing quadratic and rational functions. This course stresses and reinforces important skills such as organization, note-taking and test preparation throughout the year. The skills mastered in this course will prepare students for success in Geometry and Algebra 2. Prerequisite: Algebra 1A and department approval. A note regarding the yearlong Algebra 1B course: This is a for-credit class for students who wishing to complete a full year-long course in Algebra 1B and then enroll in either Geometry or Geometry Honors in the fall. Homework and assessments will be given on a daily basis. This class runs for a total of 24 days, 8:30 – 1:30 pm each day and attendance is mandatory This class is only recommended for students with a strong background in Algebra 1A who wish to accelerate in math. For those looking for an opportunity to review basic Algebra concepts, please consider Gear-Up Algebra 1B (1 WEEK, NO ACADEMIC CREDIT).
